Valentine's Day Fun!
One of my favorite things to do on a cold winter day is cook. Coming from a long line of Italian woman I don't know how to cook small scale. Ask my husband and he will agree. I love creating the type of meals you would find in a fancy restaurant. They look lash and time consuming, but in reality they are really easy to make. Those have always been my favorites.
I also love the smell of fresh baked breads. But that is another post. Right from the start it was always important to me that my boys know how to cook. I told them from an early age that they needed to learn how to cook because you can not expect anyone to cook for them. You need to learn how to take care of yourself.
So on a cold winter day, after the arts and crafts are put away. I would take out something fun to create in the kitchen. Fun and easy. Rice Crispy Treats are a childhood staple, or at least they should be. LOL
The recipe itself is easy, and the kids get a kick out of making the rice treats into different shapes. For Valentine's Day we used hearts. See, that is the best part of this recipe. You can use it for any holiday. Just take out your cookie cutters and the only thing holding you back is your imagination. Make sure you use your imagination!
Depending on your child's age, you decide if they are old enough to stand over the stove and stir the marshmallows and rice cereal in the pot. Let your child share in the measuring too. Math skills can start at an early age if you introduce them slowly and naturally.
Once the treats are shaped I put them on a cookie sheet and let them cool in the refrigerator. And don't worry about left over, they never last long!
Enjoy the Moments, Cherish the Memories!
Until Next Time - Cynthia
