Social | Emotional Milestones 1-2 Years

Everyone remembers the phrase The Terrible Twos. Okay, take that reference and through it out the window. In my experience, there is no such thing as The Terrible Twos. To be honest, my children were angels at that age. Remember, these are guidelines and every child is different. For my children, the tantrums started closer to three years old.

That being said, the rest still holds true. Children around the ages of 1 to 2 years old do start to play by themselves. They do believe they are the center of the world. Think about it, why wouldn't they? From the time they were born, they took priority over everything. Now that they are a little older, they are learning others feel the same way, and they need to share mommy, daddy, and their toys. This is a big adjustment, hence the start of displaying tantrums.

Work with your child through this adjustment. Talk to them, but speak to them in a way they will understand. They are evolving and learning, every day, and as parents, so are we.

Enjoy the moments! Cherish the memories!

Until next time - Cynthia
